Hochkönigmann 04 – 06 September 2020
The Hochkönigmann: from a daring idea to one of the most popular trail-running competitions in Austria. The Hochkönig Skyrace is part of the MIGU Skyrunner World Series – the World Cup for Skyrunners. Total prize purse for the winner: € 6000. With its challenging course design, the Hochkönig is a popular venue, an extraordinary running event and, with three different and well-established trails, also part of the Austrian Trail-Running Cup.
Here is an overview of the different divisions in the Hochkönigmann from 04. – 06.09.2020:
Course | Distance | Elevation Gain:
Endurance Trail: 83 km (5060 vertical meters)
Marathon Trail: 49 km (3070 vm)
Hochkönig Skyrace: 31 km (2877 vm)
Speed Trail: 22 km (1200 vm)
Easy Trail: 10 km (300 vm)
The courses lead runners through significant climbs and descents, and across the highest “grass mountains” in Europe, up to elevations as high as 2100 m. Technical passages with exposed tree roots alternate with short-sharp as well as extended climbs and descents. Also playing an important role: flat stretches completely on trails.
Highlight of the course: very runnable ridgelines over the Schneeberg and from the Klingspitz to the Schwalbenwand. Over several hours, athletes will also find themselves running on high alpine pathways with views of the Grossglockner and the Hochkönig (elev. 2900 m). The paved portion of the different courses: ca. 2 to 5%.

With the year winding down, snow blankets the rooftops. As the fragrances of cinnamon, anise and Christmas cookies along with atmospheric illuminations get us in the perfect mood for the Christmas holidays, this is when you should definitely spend the most peaceful time of the year here with us at the MorgenZeit. You see: Here in the Hochkönig Region, we celebrate Advent with authentic traditions and open hearts, Advent concerts, mystical stories and even a maze of lights. Experience the snowy lanes running through the picture-book village of Maria Alm. With the smell of gingerbread and mulled wine in the air and gentle Christmas music doing full honor to this season of peace, even the most avid of winter sports fans will pause for reflection.

Regional shopping – fine products for your home and gifts
Fresh, regional products play a big role at the MorgenZeit. Our cheeses, for example, come from right here in Maria Alm, from Hofkäserei Onemoos. The milk they put into their cheeses there quite literally comes straight from many happy cows, cows that love to be spoiled and petted by children. This family-run business invests boundless love in every detail of their products, something you can taste immediately and just one reason we value their cheeses so much.
Want to enjoy the “flavor” of the MorgenZeit in your own home? We are happy to share contact information for select regional producers with you. Many of them have their own farm-direct shops. Their products are also wonderful tokens of love to take with you as souvenirs or gifts:
